Our Story

A haven off County Road 160

Veteran-operated, family-run, and stubborn about second chances — Circle H Haven is the only horse and donkey rescue in all of West Texas.

How It Started

One mini donkey, then sixty more

Circle H Haven opened in 2025, when founder Nichol Hollingsworth took in a single mini donkey as a companion animal. Then came the calls — a starving horse here, an abandoned donkey there, a kill-pen lot with a date on it. The family kept saying yes.

Today more than sixty horses, donkeys, and mules live at the haven. Many were pulled straight out of the slaughter pipeline — auctions, kill pens, and feedlots where West Texas equines disappear south by the truckload. Others were surrendered by owners who couldn’t care for them, or found abandoned with nowhere else to go.

It’s still a family operation. Nichol’s daughter helps run the daily care, her husband works two jobs to keep the haven afloat, and the animals get checked at two, three, four in the morning when they need it. The herd always comes first.

A Standing Ask

Veterinary partners wanted

Our animals arrive with the hardest cases — malnourishment, overgrown hooves, untreated injuries, dental neglect. We’re actively looking for veterinary partners for discounted services, emergency calls, dental work, and castrations.

If you’re a vet, a farrier, or a hauler who wants your work to mean something extra, we’d love to talk.
